News: Are iOS apps more popular than 'American Idol'? (we wish)

Flurry_iossocialgames_vs_prime

Not one for loving mainstream TV, here's only hoping that this research is true:

"Games running on Apple's iOS are starting to match prime-time television shows in overall consumption, a new study from Flurry Analytics claims.

According to the research company, 19 million people currently spend an average of 22 minutes each day playing iOS games, or accessing social networks on their iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad. That total number of users easily eclipses viewership of Sunday Night Football games, "Undercover Boss," and other top shows. It's also just 4 million viewers shy of top show "American Idol.""

News: Australian World Cup Betting May Top A$300 Million

World-cup-iphone-application-b

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie

--------
Australian bets on the soccer World Cup may reach a record A$300 million ($254 million), exceeding the annual take for the nation’s domestic football codes, according to bookmakers including Tabcorp Holdings Ltd.

The forecast for the tournament, which starts today, compares with turnover of about A$200 million four years ago, said Craig Nugent, managing director of sports betting at Melbourne-based Tabcorp, Australia’s biggest gambling company.

While betting, attendance and television viewership of domestic professional soccer lags behind Australian rules football and rugby league, the World Cup may overtake their takings this year as the competition draws those who don’t normally gamble, Nugent said.

Australia will play its first game of the tournament on June 13 local time against Germany. Other members of its group are Ghana and Serbia.

Should the Australian team, known as the Socceroos, make it to the second round and meet England, Nugent is expecting the match to be the most gambled on game in the country’s sports betting history.

“If Australia goes through their group and England win theirs, we would expect it would break all records,” he said.

Tabcorp today started an application for Apple Inc. iPhones to place bets.

News: Apple patents “iTravel”, a mobile booking and ticketless check-in App for iPhone

Apple has filed a patent for a travel app called iTravel that books flights, hotels and car reservations, as well as providing ticketless check-in using Near Field Communications (NFC), a short-range wireless technology.

Apple has already indicated its interest in the ticketing space by filing a patent for "Concert Ticket +", an event ticketing system linked to iTunes. But this is the first indication that the company is actively looking to target the travel vertical.
