Video: Music + Art - Squarepusher 'Dark Steering'

Squarepusher

Mesmerising and yet indulgent? Video clip for UK artist Squarepusher.
Watch @3:30 as the visuals change.

Electronic musicians can be terrible live acts: What’s the point of seeing someone stand on stage behind a laptop, hitting a return key? No wonder then that artists such as Daft Punk and Justice amp up their shows with elaborate visual displays. Tom Jenkinson, aka Squarepusher, is another such performer, and unlike the rest, he does the music and the visuals himself.

Found: Anatomy of a Mashup: Definitive Daft Punk visualised

Daft-punk-visual

Great visual created by Cameron Adams, a Web Technologist in Sydney:

"The entire piece is composed from the latest HTML5 and CSS3 technology (canvas, audio, transforms & transitions) so you'll need a newer browser to view it in. I recommend Chrome because it pulls off the best performance with my mangled code. All of the waveform and spectrum visualisation is performed in realtime, so your browser is rendering a music video on the fly!"

The Top 10 Mobile Applications of 2012 (back in 2009)

Back in late 2009, Gartner predicted applications in the categories of mobile payments, money tranfsers, location-based services, mobile health monitoring and those that provide fast access to content will be among the top mobile applications in the next few years.

Gartner’s list of top ten consumer mobile applications for 2012:

  • Money Transfer
  • Location-Based Services
  • Mobile Search
  • Mobile Browsing
  • Mobile Health Monitoring
  • Mobile Payment
  • Near Field Communication Services
  • Mobile Advertising
  • Mobile Instant Messaging
  • Mobile Music

2010 breakdown
Location, search, music and browsing was big in 2010 - no surprises there. New players like Square and local banks such ANZ both released apps that allow simple Money Transfer / Mobile payments - whilst in-app purchases made an excellent model to up-sell consumers after a free initial download.

So as we stroll in to 2011 will the predictions of NFC and Advertiser will to spend more on Mobile Ads be realised?
