Infographic: Livehoods Maps Cities According To Foursquare

1280-livelihoods-lead

Currently Livehoods is only available for a few US based cities - however jump over to Facebook to vote your city up. Go Sydney!

-----

Re-Imagining the City in the Age of Social Media
Livehoods offer a new way to conceptualize the dynamics, structure, and character of a city by analyzing the social media its residents generate. By looking at people's checkin patterns at places across the city, we create a mapping of the different dynamic areas that comprise it. Each Livehood tells a different story of the people and places that shape it.

Using data such as tweets and check-ins, we are able to discover the hidden structures of the city with machine learning. Our techniques reveal a snap-shot of the dynamic areas the comprise the city, which we call Livehoods.

Trulia-insights
Interesting stuff from Trulia Insights - The House Hunting All Day, Every Day is an interactive tool which data based on traffic on Trulia.com and Trulia Mobile between June and August 2011.

-----

From Trulia:
To find out, we took a three-month snapshot of all the window shopping on Trulia.com and Trulia Mobile to see when most prospective buyers are looking at homes for sale. We then plotted our findings in a rainbow-colored chart where purple means it’s sleepy time and red means it’s a prime hour to search for homes.

Found: Anatomy of a Mashup: Definitive Daft Punk visualised

Daft-punk-visual

Great visual created by Cameron Adams, a Web Technologist in Sydney:

"The entire piece is composed from the latest HTML5 and CSS3 technology (canvas, audio, transforms & transitions) so you'll need a newer browser to view it in. I recommend Chrome because it pulls off the best performance with my mangled code. All of the waveform and spectrum visualisation is performed in realtime, so your browser is rendering a music video on the fly!"

Found: The Expat Explorer Survey: Comparing Countries by People Living Abroad

Expat_explorer

Via infosthetics:

Expat Explorer [hsbc.com] provides a visual overview of how 25 countries are ranked according to the opinions of those best placed to compare the quality of living in different countries: people living abroad.

The interactive, geo-located bubble world map is based on a large survey of about 4,000 expats conducted in 2010. Individual criteria can be selected under the broad categories of economic wellbeing, lifestyle/experience and the wellbeing of children to contrast the performance of different countries. Pairs of countries can be compared side by side in detail, in addition to some links to relevant information such as specific tax and country guides.
