About 30% of mobile phone users spend an average of about 27 minutes each day text messaging, using the telephone and video chatting, according to retailer CultureLabel.com. The company put together an infographic that highlights the bright outlook for the mobile commerce industry, helped along by the massive growth of smartphone adoption.

As CultureLabel looked to expand its own mobile strategy, the company compiled stats to reinforce the need to grow its m-commerce channel. According to its findings displayed in the online art retailer’s infographic, 5.9 billion out of the 7 billion people (87%) worldwide already have mobile phones. Smartphone sales are up 63.1% from 2010, and a whopping 488.5 million devices were sold in 2011.

Meanwhile, one in seven searches are made with a mobile device. More people are accessing social networking sites this way too. In fact, Facebook mobile users have quadrupled in two years from 50 million in 2009 to 200 million in 2011.

The infographic also points out that mobile commerce is expected to experience significant growth by 2015 from the six previous years — jumping 99-fold from $1 billion in sales in 2009 to more than $100 billion.

Facebook to reach One Billion users in September

Chart-of-the-day-facebook-will-have-one-billion-users-by-september

Facebook says it has 800 million active users.

Building a chart based on previous user number announcements, iCrossings says Facebook will probably reach 1 billion users sometime in August 2012.

In the past, "active" has meant that these people log in once a month. What's truly stunning is that Facebook says more than 50% of its users log in every day.

Hype: Why Location Based Service Foursquare May Actually Be Worth $600 Million

Foursquare

Edited version:

Location app Foursquare announced $50 million in additional funding today, valuing the 2-year-old company at a reported $600 million.

What will Foursquare ad deals and integrations ultimately look like? How will they be measured in terms of effectiveness? That's all still to be determined. Also: How much are marketers actually willing to pay for Foursquare programs?

Marketers have certainly been eager to experiment with the location-based service, which finds 10 million users -- that's total, not active -- accessing the app to tag themselves at restaurants, bars and parks to share with friends, and get discounts and recommendations.

"[Foursquare] is about as close to the epicenter of social local and mobile as anything I know," Mr. Tobaccowala added. "That bridge between the analog world and mobile, there's going to be a lot of money made. Foursquare has the potential to leverage that."

Found: Wired was right. The web's dead (long live the web)

067420-flurry-graph

Via News.com.au
For the first time ever, people in the US are spending more time using mobile phone apps than browsing the web.
What that means, basically, is less of "facebook.com" and more of the Facebook button on your iPhone.
--------
I didn't know there was a 'Facebook button'. #lol
